Last year Seaward was delighted to support the Ovation Rock Show, brainchild of Nick Davidson of Ovation Music based in Chichester. Ovation is a group of musicians, teachers and music industry professionals who work with children and young people in the area, helping them build skills and confidence through positive experiences of rehearsing and performing music together.
The show was a resounding success and we were very happy to continue Seaward’s support in 2018.
Just under 100 young people age 9 – 19 performed over the three shows in the Minerva Theatre in Chichester last weekend. There were bands, choirs, vocal groups, singer-songwriters and soloists playing Jazz, Indie, Metal, Rock, Pop, Funk, Soul and Acoustic, both original and cover songs.
Many of the young performers had never been on stage before so to perform live in front of a large audience was a real achievement. It is particularly encouraging to see so many young people of mixed ages from a range of different schools working together and supporting each other.
In total 739 tickets were sold and the proceeds will help Ovation make live performance more accessible to young musicians. It will also help develop work with vulnerable children and young people, providing them with music workshops, and to extend Ovation’s regular music sessions and work experience opportunities.
